A Hackathon with a difference – Saturday 7th June

admin Blog Leave a Comment

This Saturday we’re hosting something a little bit different in The Courtyard.

Cobden Chambers residents Wiseman Designs have set up a hackathon. I must admit, I am not entirely sure what a hackathon is, but I am sure that many of you will know exactly what it is. What I do know is that the briefs and categories were announced last Sunday, and teams and individuals registered to take part.

All this week they will have been beavering away, get their developments ready, and will have a few hours on Saturday to complete their entries on site.

Judging will then begin, and the awards presentation will commence at around 6pm.

For a more thorough explanation, please visit the website at http://www.wisemanhack.com/

It looks as though summer is here, and we welcomed it in true style at Cobden Chambers!

This weekend saw the first Vintage Reclaimed Market, and what a roaring success it was! With over 1500 people through the gates over the weekend, it looks as though the best kept secret of Nottingham is making its way out.

But, with music, food, tea and vintage treasures galore, it’s no surprise that it went down a storm… and we can’t wait for next month!

Vintage Reclaims Nottingham!

Following their recent involvement in the regeneration of our very own Cobden Chambers, and collaborations with numerous Nottingham independents, local business Vintage Reclaimed Limited have extended their hands to a brand new series of bi monthly vintage and antique fairs beginning Saturday the 17th of May.

Vintage Reclaimed already own and run three vintage shops in Nottingham; a multi-storey emporium of art, vintage and antiques known as Hopkinson on Station Street, longstanding retro paradise Daphnes handbag on Mansfield Road and their newest store, Vintage Reclaimed at Cobden Chambers, Pelham Street. Alongside this they have supplied furniture and décor for local independent venues Boilermaker, The Rumhouse and Wired.

Their flagship store Hopkinson is a vintage treasure trove, supporting over 70 different independent vintage and antique traders. The fairs are set to be a real treat, using handpicked stallholders with stock ranging from curiosities, furniture, home-ware, clothing and antiques. Liam Woodgates and Becky Evers, Directors of Vintage Reclaimed are keen to bring authentic and unusual vintage and antiques to the streets of Nottingham.

Organised as a bi-monthly event, the 1st Saturday and Sunday of every month will see Hopkinson’s newly renovated top floor as home to a plethora of pop up stalls and every third Saturday and Sunday, the Cobden Chamber’s courtyard will be buzzing with live music ranging from the 20’s- 80’s, alongside a barbecue, vintage beauty parlour, tea party and a wide range of vintage and antique products.

Expect the typical eccentric vibe that each of their existing stores offer and enjoy a fantastic selection of Nottingham’s independent scene.

Pecha Kucha at Cobden 07/05/2014, 4 – 6pm

pecha kucha

We’re really excited to announce that we will be playing host to a Pecha Kucha event tomorrow at Cobden Chambers.

Pecha Kucha originated in Tokyo in 2003, and has since spread to over 700 cities all over the globe. It is a low-key, vibrant way to present information, share passions, meet like-minded people, and get inspired.

Each presenter has 20 slides, each of which they can only spend 20 seconds speaking about…. this is a long way from those boring, never-ending presentations most of us have had the (dis)pleasure of attending.

The event at Cobden Chambers will be specifically focused on  Nottingham’s growing indie culture, and will feature talks from people who have taken the leap, and set up their own business… including some of our lovely Cobden Chambers residents.

Head down to Cobden Chambers for a 4pm start, and prepare yourself to be inspired!

Find out more about Pecha Kucha here http://www.pechakucha.org/

Cobden Chambers is proud play host to the culmination of this unique project which has been running since March.

13 students from local colleges have been working together with some of Nottingham Trent’s own Art & Design student volunteers to design a series of mugs. Focusing on the commercial enterprise skills it takes to be a designer, they’ve been exploring markets and trends, advertising and promotion.

This Saturday sees it all come together in a very special event, with the designers selling their handmade mugs in Cobden Chambers.

Come along, and have a smashing time… but not literally, please!
